Renowned American filmmaker Spike Lee has arrived in Ghana.

He was welcomed by officials from the Ghana Tourism Authority at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

The award-winning filmmaker is credited with creating thought-provoking movies such as Do The Right Thing, Malcom X and BlacKkKlansman.

He touched down with a delegation a few hours after US Vice President, Kamala Harris touched down in the West African country ahead of her 9-day continental tour.

In the company of her husband, Douglas Emhoff, and other top US officials, the Vice President said she seeks to reinforce the United States’ ties with Ghana and the continent.

The filmmaker and his team were invited by Madam Harris amid her planned engagements to increase investment and economic opportunities in Ghana as explained by US political and civic Marc Morial, who was also present.

Spike Lee was spotted in all-black attire with a ‘Beyond The Return’ sash around his neck with Kente embroidery.

The movie director celebrated his 66th birthday just a week ago.

Social media users are already dabbling in the possibility that Spike Lee may collaborate with local creatives and executives in the movie sector.

Interestingly, the 66-year-old is not the only personality from the US acting scene in Ghana at the moment.

The Culture Joint reported that “Abbott Elementary” star, Sheryl Lee Ralph is in Ghana and already loving her stay.

The Emmy-winning star says she feels at him in the West African country as it embodies certain similarities to her country of heritage, Jamaica. The decision to visit Ghana appears sudden as her fans have been asking about the rationale.

In an interview on Accra-based Joy FM, Sheryl explained that the trip is strictly for holidays. Basically, she is in Ghana to unwind. “This trip was for rest and relaxation,” she said.

This comes off the heels of accolades received on her latest television show.
