Earlier this month, Nigerian superstar Omah Lay was at the receiving end of criticisms for a performance he delivered at NPR’s Tinny Desk concert.
He had been accused of casting a smear on the fast-rising trajectory of the Afrobeats wave with his sub-par vocals and incoherent activation on the highly acclaimed platform.

However, a recent showdown by another colleague Asake seems to be the one that social media users claim, restores the image of soldiers of the genre across Africa.
It was the turn of the YBNL/Empire on the popular late-night television programme, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and as it turns out their conversation was great.

The 28-year-old break-out star joins other Nigerian heavyweights such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido among others to be hosted on the U.S. late-night show.
After his interview, the singer born Ahmed Ololade Asake, flanked by The Composers, took the studio audience through a series of his smash hits from his 2022 album, Mr. Money With The Vibe.
Social media users have been hailing the performance as one that carries the true essence and spirit of Afrobeats.
